The Very Best of the Psycho Motel Radio Show

It's nearly time for Psycho Motel XV "Killers Clash Halloween Party" on the 3rd November with Zombina, Dick Limerick, Superfast Girlie Show and Jimmy Lightfoot. It's the first Psy Mo for quite a long time, and we've been getting nostalgic remembering the Psycho Motel Radio Show... A precursor to Psychomotelevision, and just the thing for Halloween scares, if you're scared of really stupid stuff...

Psycho Motel XIII 11/05/12

Greetings, Earthlings. This Friday night at the Kazimier it’s time for "Psycho Motel XIII: The Dutch Space Rock Invasion" at the Kazimier, so put a rocket in your pocket, wrap yourself in tinfoil, and hitch a UFO down to the Curious Orange on Renshaw St. to get one of them sweet £4 tickets (it’s £6 on the door, the crazy saving speaks for itself)...
For the first time in the UK we have SANTA CRUZ – Den Haag’s loudest, most acid-damaged, least stoppable spacerockers with their endlessly epic cosmic ritual and policy of 'no normal songs' beware, for they are so loud you could literally hear them in outer space, where science tells us sound cannot travel! Science is wrong. It's Santa Cruz, gang...

...but before that, we’ve got the surf-tastic 2 piece, BEACH SKULLS with some of their excellent twangy experiments…

…then it’s time for the mysterious galactic supergroup, STOCK FOOTAGE (starring folks from The International, El Toro!, After the Massacre, Horse Bastard, Noise Club and Freddy’s Nightmares) performing a one-off psychedelic rock composition that will blow your mind and do your head in!

Plus we’ve got the return of THE BRUTES! Classic garage powered punk, straight outta Glasgow. You may have seen ‘em at the Go Go Cage, or at Useless many moons ago, and noticed that they ruled. They still rule to this day…
…and as a smashing bonus feature, Zombina from Zombina andthe Skeletones will be joining the Psycho Motel DJs, to spin her favourite spaceage robo-records.

Oh, and we have lift off!!!

P.S. Thanks to everyone who came to see Legendary Shack Shakers at the Hoe Down. That was pretty much the greatest thing we’ve ever been involved in. We may have to do it again next year ;)

More of this please :)

Micro Motel: Graveyard Disturbance 18/04/12

It's nearly time for Psycho Motel XII: The Psycho Mo-Hoedown with the Legendary Shack Shakers! We suggest that you go get yourself a £5 advance ticket from Curious Orange or from http://www.seetickets.com/Event/THE-LEGENDARY-SHACK-SHAKERS/The-Kazimier/626761

Maybe it will help to mentally prepare you for it if you come along to our lil' Micro Motel event at Basement 20 this Wednesday...
We'll be selling Shack Shakers tickets on the door here, too. And we've got two to give away to the first people to recognize a Legendary Shack Shakers record when we play it!

It's also the official single launch for THE TREEMAN, who you may know as "The Angriest Guitarist in the World" from Youtube...
...so get there early if you want one of those sweet "Tree Coloured" vinyls he's gonna have with him; also so you don't miss DICK VENOM AND THE TERRORTONES, those garagebilly monsters from Nottingham...
...and Liverpool's mighty SALEM RAGES, spooky punk rock from ex-Cold Ones and SSS people...
...and of course, the icing on the cake, all the way from Los Angeles, Calivania, the eerie horrorpunk/psychobilly stylings of REZUREX...
...The Psycho Motel DJs promise to play only the scariest, most Halloweeniest rock n' roll we can muster all night. So come on down. It's only three quid, like.

Tune in tomorrow night for the next episode of Psycho Motelevision, and watch this space for the Psycho Motel volume 2 compilation (can anyone recommend a good file hosting site?) and news about Psycho Motel XIII...

Psycho Motelevision - Episode 3 [March 30th Promo]

The devil is running amuck in the motel this month, making things difficult for Phlemings, but that's not gonna stop Joe from running his mouth and getting all anomalous on ya. 'Cos time travel! Union Jaques tells us a traditional European comedy joke. Flava Flav invents rock n' roll. Flashbacks to the Cross Dressin' Ball abound, with musical guests Sonic Rednecks, The Stags and The Rent Boys. Yes! It's a special episode of the award winning game show Psycho Motelevision with tips, hints and Hogan facts that will come in handy when it's time to come on down to Psycho Motel XI on March 30th...
And remember, kids, get there early and get yourself a FREE Psycho Motel CD, starring every band that's played at Psycho Motel since the last time we gave out free CDs way back in... Dec 2010!!! Gosh!
CDs? Remember them?

Psy Mo 2012: The Year So Far...

We'd like to say a massive fangs to everyone who came down to the first Psycho Motel of the year, Psycho Motel X: The Cross Dressin' Valentines Ball at the Kazimier, and to the first ever 'Micro Motel' event inside Basement 20 last Friday...

For those of you who couldn't make it, here's a peek at what you missed at Psy Mo X! A game of confusing and deadly transvestite Blind Date with Zombina from out of the Skeletones, hosted by The Reverend Dick Crypt (AKA local rap superhero Rikky Wiley) and a perverse slab of noise rock from the ever-so-exciting Rent Boys... who all but destroyed the Kaz with their Yorkshire filth...
...and here's some pretty snaps of Micro Motel at Basement 20 that we've nicked from Adrian Wharton's Facebook page. That man photographs pretty much everything that goes on at Psy Mo, so he's hopefully used to it by now. As you can see, you all outdid yourselves once again in the drunken chaos stakes...
Villy Dead Class + Dave Raw Bones + Jimmy El Toro! + Phlemings...
...+ Everyone else = Congested basement!
Raw Bones ravin' on!
You! Possibly suffocating!
The Dead Class destroying!
You! Levitating!
El Toro! Bringing the Boss Sound!
You! Happy punks having a nice evening...
So, needless to say, we'll be continuing to put on Micro Motel events at Basement 20 alongside the big Motel in the Kazimier... and we've got more up our sleeve that we'll announce later!

Don't forget about PSYCHO MOTEL XI: THE ENCHANTMENT UNDER THE SEA DANCE, 30th March! That's right around the corner!

Forget even less about PSYCHO MOTEL XII: LEGENDARY SHACK SHAKERS!!! PSYCHO MO-HOEDOWN 25th April, neither!

The fiendish fun will ever continue...

Psycho Motelevision - Episode 2 [Micro Motel Promo]

GoodGuy Joe has been let loose once again in the Psycho Motel TV studio; he's very eager for you all to come and watch GoodGuy Records' 1st signings, El Toro! live at Psycho Motel's first "Micro Motel" event, at Basement 20, Hardman St., Liverpool, THIS FRIDAY!!!

Also appearing are The Dead Class, Raw Bones, DJ Riggy, DJ Becky Boneshaker, and Phlegmings the Singin' Bellboy, an' it's just £2, stupids!!!

Don't break Joe's heart by not attending.

Go fast, turn left!
We should mention - this show doubles as a release party for issue 10 of Sideburn Magazine; unfortunately not a magazine about sideburns (although, if there are any magazines about sideburns, Psycho Motel will absolutely host your launch parties) but about the exciting and dangerous world of dirtbike crashing! So expect even more rubber suited people than usual!

Here's the Facebook event page:

Psycho Motelevision Episode 3, coming later this week...
...you have been warned!

Friday 17 February 2012

Psycho Motel Vol.1 (2010-2011) FREE COMPILATION!

At Psycho Motel IV: “Gods & Monsters Party”, shortly before the end of  Psy Mo’s residence at now mythical ‘creative space’ Don’t Drop the Dumbells, we compiled a killer mixtape featuring almost every band who had played at Psycho Motel to date! The night before the show, we burned as many copies as we could manage onto CD-R – hastily photocopied a bunch of sleeves (re-using Becky Boneshaker’s artwork from the very first Psy Mo poster) and handed them out on the door to anyone who would have ‘em…

The comp was jolly well received, of course, as it contained some fine and varied examples of dirty garage (Dick Venom, Kid Voodoo); dark psychedaelia (Black Moth, El Toro!); modern rockabilly (Raw Bones, X Ray Cat Trio); electro punk (Louis Lingg, Bad Taste Barbies); and the virtually unclassifiable (Long Finger Bandits, Phlegmings the Singin’ Bellboy); plus an exclusive, unreleased track from the mighty Zombina and the Skeletones, making it a perfect time-capsule of Psycho Motel’s first era (2010-2011)!

That was then, however, and this is most definitely now… Arrive early to Psy Mo XI: “Enchantment Under the Sea Dance” (Friday 30th March at the Kazimier), and you’ll receive a FREE copy of Psycho Motel Vol.2 – “The Second Comping”, which will no doubt be twice the classic that the first volume was!

What’s that? You weren’t around in the ‘Dumbells’ days? Want to be able to pretend you were? Well, you’re in luck – as you can download the original Psycho Motel Vol.1 comp below…
Psycho Motel Vol.1
1. Phlegmings the Singin’ Bellboy – “Theme from Psycho Motel”
2. El Toro! – “No Doctor”
3. High School Massacre – “It’s Real”
4. Kid Voodoo – “Working on the 8th Nerve”
5. X-Ray Cat Trio – “Hail Hail”
6. Black Moth – “The Articulate Dead”
7. Bad Taste Barbies – “Working Up a Sweat”
8. Louis Lingg and the Bombs – “R.E.V.O.L.T”
9. Long Finger Bandits – “Wish I Could Remember”
10. The Medicine Bow – “Scar on the Horizon”
11. Raw Bones – “Shame (Live)”
12. Dick Venom and the Terrortones – “Lily and the Killers”
13. Zombina and the Skeletones – “City of Ghosts (Preview)”

Click here to download Psycho Motel Vol.1 (.zip file, mp3format)

...thanks to all the bands involved for letting us use their beautiful music. Everyone on here has a ton more songs, only a google search away, so don't delay!

Legendary Shack Shakers at Psycho Motel 25/04/12

Wednesday 25th April 2012, Psycho Motel Presents: “The Legendary Shack Shakers in Psycho Mo-Hoedown!”
Psycho Motel sacrifices it’s usual weekend slot to bring you an incredibly special performance from one of the finest goddamn rock n’ roll bands in the world right now! We’re excited to reveal that TH' LEGENDARY SHACK SHAKERS from Nashville Tennessee are checking in to the Motel to promote their new album “AgriDustrial”. The Shack Shakers play an awesomely varied mixture of country, gypsy, blues, punk and rockabilly, and are literally so ‘legendary’ that bullet points have suddenly become necessary…
  • Their guitarist, Duane Denison was a founding member of two other classic US alternative acts - The Jesus Lizard and Tomahawk! And before he joined the Shakers he was playing guitar for Hank Williams III (who once called them the best band in America)!!!
  •   Jello Biafra of The Dead Kennedy’s called their lead vocalist/blues harpist, JD Wilkes “The last great rock n’ roll frontman”, and made a guest appearance on their 2006 album “Pandelerium"!!!
  • Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin named their “Believe” album his favourite of 2005, and took them on tour as his support band!!!
  • Their track “Swampblood” appears on the soundtrack of top vampire soap, Tru-Blood!!!
…and if that weren’t exciting enough, we’ve got support from El Toro! (The Ventures meets post-punk from Liverpool and San Diego, feat. Members of Zombina and the Skeletones and Pete Bentham and the Dinnerladies) and TheLoose Moose String Band (traditional scouse bluegrass and skiffle) and all the usual Psycho Motel sundries, such as the inimitable cabaret oddness of our accordion slingin’ bellboy – Phlemings! …and we got southern gothic flavoured DJ sets from the Psycho Motel gang! Plus the inevitable barndance dresscode = MOST EXCITING PSYCHO MOTEL EVENT EVER!!!
Tickets £6 from Curious Orange or £7.50 on the door. Doors open 8pm.

If you're not familiar with the work of the Shack Shakers, here's our top picks...

...that's the tune we mentioned that features Mr Biafra (though you'll have to listen hard!)

This one demonstrates their more laid back gothic country style...

...and here's one that's been on the Psycho Motel playlist since the beginning! Maybe you recognise?
Just thinking about it makes us feel all funny.
DO. NOT. MISS. THIS.

Psycho Motel XI 30/03/12

Great Scott! On Friday the 30th March 2012, Liverpool’s finest haunted hotel/rock n’ roll trash night returns to The Kazimier with a multi-faceted theme party featuring a 3-pronged dress code that includes nautical, 50’s high school prom and 80’s time travel movies all at once! With appropriate live garage/surf/rockabilly music from The Cedar House Band, Pete Bentham and the Dinnerladies and The Witches - all introduced by that accordion wielding carnival freak – Phlegmings the Singing Bellboy! Plus the exclusive Motel DJ team of GoodGuy Joe, Becky Boneshaker, Doc Horror (Zombina and the Skeletones) and Ida Ghostique spinning punk, gothic, outsider and oldies… and some lucky boy and girl will get the dubious honour of being crowned king and queen of the underwater 50’s 80’s… if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything!
Tickets £4 from Curious Orange (Grand Central Basement, Renshaw St.) or £6 on the door!
9pm start!

Psycho Motel Micro with EL TORO! 16/03/12

Hi, gang! Do you ever feel like there's just not enough Psycho Motel type action going on in Liverpool? Get bored waiting for the next Kazimier party to roll around? Well, check this out, kids! On Friday 16th March, we invite you to join us at Basement 20 (below 'The Lyrics Lounge' on Hardman St.) for the first of our streamlined spin-off events that shall henceforth be known as... PSYCHO MOTEL MICRO!
Garage Surf monsters (and Psy Mo regulars) EL TORO! return for their first gig of 2012, and they've finally got that drummer problem sorted! Enter Gabrielle Dos Santos (Town Bike, Dinnerladies) on the hot seat. This will also be the first chance to hear a bunch of their new tunes before their E.P release this spring!!
"El Toro! A Liverpudlian quartet who cross Link Wray and the Ventures with the Sonics and The cramps for a sweaty set of '60's snarl and grind rockers. Anthemic shouters like "I wanna Know" and "The Note" mingle seamlessly with the big phat twangin' instro "The Boss Sound", while "Vendetta" wears it's white punks on surf charm on it's sleeve..." - SHINDIG MAGAZINE

...plus - we've somehow managed to pin down punk rock renegade globe trotters THE DEAD CLASS, check out the video below to get some sort of clue about how these rowdy bastards do business!!

...and that's not all... oh no! Those demented rockabillys RAW BONES will be opening the festivities with their twisted rock n' roll noize!!! Roll on!!!!

...an' we got DJs, of course, in the form of Psycho Motel's resident artist BECKY BONESHAKER and our pal RIGGY, a collector of unusual sounds, will be blasting you with all the best in garage, psyche-billy, weirdo and scary 'til the wee hours!

All this for just 2 quid!?
